Thymus 'Spicy Orange'
Zone 4 to Zone 9, Full Sun to partial sun.
2 to 3 inch high; medium growth rate, low growing miniature evergreen perennial.
Needle-shaped green leaves with a strong spicy-orange fragrance, covered by pale-pink flowers in early summer.
Thymus is easily grown in average, dry to medium, well-drained soils, and prefers loose, sandy or rocky soils with excellent drainage. Tolerates drought and poor soils of somewhat low fertility. Cut back stems as necessary to maintain plant appearance or to control growth/spread. Plants are evergreen in mild winters.
Good for ground cover, rock gardens, lawn replacement and containers. Great for filling between stepping stones as it will tolerate moderate foot traffic. Works well in mixed beds or in pots when allowed to trail over the edges. |
