Carex testacea 'Orange Sedge'
a/k/a Sedge, Sedge Grass, Japanese Sedge.
Zone 6 to 9.
Sun to part shade.
Mature foliage height 18 to 24 inches, clump forming evergreen.
Fine textured olive green foliage turns orange through cooler temperature. May self-seed but not aggressively.
Performs best in moist rich, acidic soil with other water loving perennials and shrubs. 'Orange Sedge' is a cool-season grass. Cool-season grasses grow in spring before temperatures exceed 75 degrees Fahrenheit and in the fall when temperatures cool down. They generally maintain good color through the summer but will not grow much when it is hot. Cut back cool season grasses in very early spring.
Use in a bog, as border plants, in containers, in mass planting. Carex is as attractive addition to low lying wetlands, streambeds, near ponds and water features. Orange foliage will brighten those low lying, shady areas. |
