Zone 4 to 8. Full sun to partial shade. Plants reach 12 to 18 inches tall and 12 inches wide, upright, clump-forming.
Variegated green and yellow foliage is a standout, plus large clusters of lavender pink flowers with a white starburst center. From spring into early summer, the leaves are deep green with prominent, sunny yellow margins. As the season progresses, the margins lighten to creamy yellow.
Phlox paniculata grow well in moderately fertile, medium moisture, well-drained soil. Rich, moist, organic soil and mulch are beneficial as it is intolerant of drought. Phlox paniculata is unequaled for showy blooms over a long period throughout the summer. Though they are some of the most popular perennials available, they do require some maintenance to sustain their health and vigor.
Deadheading faded flower panicles may prolong blooms into early fall. Attracts birds and butterflies. A garden mainstay, excellent for perennial borders, mass planting, corners and for cut flowers. Phlox is a member of the Polemoniaceae family and is native from New York to Georgia, and west to Arkansas and Illinois. |
