Description
Ligularia 'Osiris Cafe Noir' PPAF COPF (20)ct Flat
Common Name: Bigleaf Ligularia, leopard plant.
Zone 4 to 9.
Part shade.
Plants reach 20 to 24 inches tall and 16 to 20 inches wide,
clump-forming perennial.

A 2008 introduction of the Ligularia "Osiris" series, this interesting selection emerges very deep purple-black, and transitions through shades of bronze before maturing to olive green. Like 'Osiris Fantaisie', the leaves of this variety are similarly thick and leathery with serrated margins. Yellow flowers are produced on 20 inch stems in mid to late summer.

Ligularias are at their best when grown in cool, organically rich, medium to wet soils in part shade to full shade. Plants must have moist soils that never dry out to prevent wilting. Protection from the hot, afternoon sun in the south is essential. They are a natural for the pond side where there is a constant supply of moisture, though they do require good drainage. Ligularia might wilt during hot afternoons, with or without adequate moisture. Temporary wilting should not distress the plant. If plants do not recover by morning, water deeply as plant absorbs moisture primarily from the root tips.

Attributes: Border plants, Container, Cut flower or foliage, Specimen or focal point plant, Attracts butterflies, Deer resistant. Especially suited to smaller gardens.

The Ellepot System is a method of growing in a peat media filled paper tube. Ellepots are environmentally friendly and decompose in the garden.

An Ellepot is a root permeable, biodegradable paper sleeve, instead of plastic. It is beneficial to plant development as root system does not spiral, and natural root development is encouraged.

Guidelines for Handling and Transplanting Elle Plugs
1) We strive to send every Elle plug with sufficient moisture to last through shipping. Upon delivery of your order, inspect all Elle plugs for soil moisture.
2) Water any plugs that appear to be dry immediately. If the Elle paper is dry, then the plug is drying out. All plugs arrive with the addition of a wetting agent to facilitate prompt, even water absorption.
3) If the Elle plugs are to be held for a period of time before transplanting, check the plugs regularly to ensure they are evenly moist. Do not let plugs dry out.
4) Just before transplanting, re-check moisture level of all plugs scheduled to be transplanted. Ensure that plugs are thoroughly moist.
