Description
Echinacea 'Solar Flare' PPAF (30)ct Ellepots
Common Name: Coneflower; BIG SKY Series
Zones 4 to 8.
Full sun to part shade.
Plants reach 24 to 36 inches tall and 18 to 24 inches wide;
Clumping habit. Growth rate: Moderate.

Enormous deep magenta red and purple petal backs flowers are 5 to 6 inches. Flowers age to an attractive smoky rose. Strongly fragrant flowers have horizontally held ray petals, making the flowers seem even larger. From mid through late summer, these showy blooms are produced atop very dark, near black stems that are thick and sturdy.

A cross between E. purpurea and E. paradoxa. They have inherited the dominant characteristics of E. purpurea, having fuller, toothed leaves and wider flower petals. They are well-branched and are vigorous growers.

Coneflowers like it sunny and hot. Though they will tolerate light shade, fewer flowers will be produced and the plants will be weakened. Light, loamy soils are best but coneflowers will grow in any well-drained soil. Once established, they are quite drought tolerant.

Excellent as a border plant, in mass or containers, as cut flower or foliage, dried flower or seed heads; fragrant flowers attract butterflies. If deadheaded, the bloom cycle will be extended. However, some spent blooms should be left on the plants in fall because their seeds provide winter food for finches and other birds. The dried seed heads also provide interest in the winter. Deer resistant.

The Ellepot System is a method of growing in a peat media filled paper tube. Ellepots are environmentally friendly and decompose in the garden.

An Ellepot is a root permeable, biodegradable paper sleeve, instead of plastic. It is beneficial to plant development as root system does not spiral, and natural root development is encouraged.

Guidelines for Handling and Transplanting Elle Plugs

1) We strive to send every Elle plug with sufficient moisture to last through shipping. Upon delivery of your order, inspect all Elle plugs for soil moisture.
2) Water any plugs that appear to be dry immediately. If the Elle paper is dry, then the plug is drying out. All plugs arrive with the addition of a wetting agent to facilitate prompt, even water absorption.
3) If the Elle plugs are to be held for a period of time before transplanting, check the plugs regularly to ensure they are evenly moist. Do not let plugs dry out.
4) Just before transplanting, re-check moisture level of all plugs scheduled to be transplanted. Ensure that plugs are thoroughly moist.
