Description
Coreopsis verticillata 'Zagreb' (25) plants
Common name: threadleaf coreopsis.
Zones 4 to 9.
Full sun.
Plants reach 15 inches tall and 12 to 15 inches wide.
Growth rate: Moderate, Easy to grow.

One of the most loved perennials, C. 'Zagreb' is an excellent performer with bright golden-yellow flowers (a deeper yellow than 'Moonbeam') blooming from early through late summer. It forms an exceptionally bushy yet airy clump of fine, needle-like foliage on upright stems. 'Zagreb' can spread in the garden by rhizomes and self-seeding, particularly in moist fertile soils.

Coreopsis grows in dry to medium moisture, most soil conditions with good drainage, including sandy or rocky. It is tolerant of humidity, heat and drought. Plants may be cut back hard in summer if foliage sprawls or becomes unkempt. The verticillata species is particularly long-lived, has a longer flowering time, and demonstrates better drought tolerance than others in the genus.

Coreopsis is easy to grow, making it a good choice for beginners. One plant will provide you with long-lasting cut flower bouquets all summer long. Plants in the genus Coreopsis are sometimes called tickseed in reference to the resemblance of the seeds to ticks.

Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit 2001

Excellent as a border plant, in containers or for cut flowers, in mass plantings, specimen or focal point. When grown in borders or other formal garden areas, division may be needed every 2 to 3 years. Attracts butterflies and Deer resistant.
