Brunnera macrophylla 'King's Ransom' PPAF (20)ct Ellepots
Common Name: Heartleaf Brunnera, Siberian Bugloss.
Zones 3 to 8.
Part Shade to Full Shade.
Plants reach 10 to 12 inches tall and 12 to 15 inches wide; Herbaceous perennial with clumping habit that form thick ground covers. Growth rate: spread vigorously by both creeping rhizomes and self-seeding.
'King's Ransom' PPAF displays a wide, creamy yellow margin and light cream frosting over the remainder of the silver leaves. After the dainty blue forget-me-not type flowers are produced in spring, the margins lighten to creamy white. A slightly smaller habit than 'Jack Frost', makes it just the right size to tuck into combination containers. This rich new "silver and gold" sport of 'Jack Frost' PP13859 has been projected by some to be equal to or better than its parent
Brunnera is a woodland plant that is easily grown in average, well-drained soil. Intolerant of dry soils, it prefers consistently moist, organically rich soil. In northern zones, morning sun is tolerable as long as the soil remains moist, and it needs to be grown in full shade with consistently moist soil in southern regions.
Once established little care is needed. Cut back the old foliage in the spring rather than in the fall; it will help to protect the crown during the winter. Winter mulch is also recommended. Though Brunnera tends to self-seed, the resulting seedlings are easy to pull out from unwanted areas or to replant elsewhere in the garden. It may also be propagated by division in the spring.
Attributes: Border plants, Container, Cut flower or foliage, mass planting. Deer resistant. |
