Common name: Aster-Aromatic.
Zones 5 to 8.
Full sun.
Plants reach 18 to 24 inches tall and 20 to 24 inches wide; a low, rhizomatous, slowly spreading aster. Growth rate: Moderate, easy to grow.
A compact, bushy selection with finely textured, mint-scented (when crushed) foliage. Beginning in late summer, a myriad of deep sky blue, daisy-like flowers with yellow centers.
This species performs best in rich, evenly moist soil and full sun, though it is also tolerant of drought, sandy, clay and poor soil. Give them lots of room to grow; good air circulation will help to prevent powdery mildew. To maintain their health and vigor, divide plants every couple of years in the spring.
October sky color is seemingly darker blue than at other times of the year, hence the cultivar name.
Excellent as a border plant, containers or window boxes, for cut flowers, mass plantings, salt tolerant and fragrant foliage. Deer and Rabbit resistant.
