Plants reach 5 to 8 inches tall and 10 to 16 inches wide;
Semi-evergreen groundcover; vigorous spreading rhizomes.
Large, elongated heart-shaped, dark green leaves are spotted with shimmering silver pigment. Semi-evergreen through mild winters, splendens sets new leaves each spring, covering previous growth. In early spring, 2-inch wide, dark purple flowers emerge under the foliage.
Forming a thick mat of foliage, Asarum splendens is an ideal shade groundcover; or in containers.
Planted in medium to wet, richly organic, slightly acidic, well-drained soil, Asarum is a low-maintenance plant that thrives in partial to full shade. Avoid planting too deep.
