Dryopteris x australis DIXIE WOOD FERN
Zones 5 to 9, Partial to full shade.
Semi evergreen.
Large, slender, lustrous, dark green fronds form a bold upright clump. Mature size can reach 4+ feet height and possibly 5 feet wide. Great background for other shade-loving plants. Can tolerate dry sites, but performs best in moist soil. Spreads by rhizomes.
Native to the southeast from Louisiana to Virginia, Dixie Wood Fern is a naturally-occurring hybrid between D. celsa and D. ludoviciana. Cut back fronds after new growth begins in spring.
